Utility jackets (military, safari, travel)

Recommended Posts

For an IT guy in an international school. He wears it to brave the chill of the server room.

The previous guy who wanted a bush jacket is the CEO of a mining company who needed it for a business trip to Africa.

JT's employee no. 2 started his first day of work today. I thought I'd start him off by having him draft, cut, and baste-sew this bush jacket in a 13 oz. selvedge denim by Kurabo in this most charming khaki. It has a half belt, inverted box pleat back. With chest darts on the front, as you can see.

We're going with a one-piece jacket style sleeve.

I'm very impressed with the new hire. He took to this like the proverbial duck to water.

Oh, the customer is going for a pair of pleated trousers in the same denim, so this is like a safari suit.

Next, buttonholes and buttons. Completely cut and sewn on-premise by an employee who has not even worked 3 months, and this is his first job out of college.

What fabric are safari suits normally cut from?

Is there even a standard?

I imagine a cotton or poly blend.

Traditional standard demands cotton drill apparently, same as khaki drills. But nowadays people go for cotton-linen blends which are more practical for hot weathers I guess.

Looks great. Got a pic of the finished back?

Cotton Twill wears warm but then again, I am not sure if most wearers actually wear them on safaris or tropical jungles. Air-conditioning and mosquito bites are mostly "the elements" wearers have to combat.
